Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal

Prof. Hasan Mandal is a leading expert in Materials Science and Engineering. He has authored more than 140 scientific publications, holds six international patents, and has received numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious TÜBİTAK Science Award.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Middle East Technical University and completed his Ph.D. at the Newcastle University. He also conducted post-doctoral research at Newcastle University and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
Throughout his career, Prof. Mandal has held prominent academic and leadership positions, including Vice Rector and Director of Research at Sabancı University and Dean at Anadolu University. He has also served as President of the Global Engineering Deans Council and the European Ceramic Society.
Within Türkiye’s higher education system, he served as a Member and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) until 2018 and continues to serve as a Council Member. From 2018 to 2024, he was President of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and currently serves as its Counsellor. He is also the current Rector of Istanbul Technical University.
