This session is designed as a hybrid format combining expert presentations and an interactive global dialogue, bringing together stakeholders from across regions to exchange perspectives on technology transfer for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and humanitarian emergency and recovery contexts. International participants of the WIPO AUTM Conference will be actively engaged to contribute insights, experiences, and challenges from diverse geographical and sectoral backgrounds.
The first part of the session will introduce the concept of technology access pools and present how Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs), conducted by the United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries, identify priority challenges and guide the selection of relevant technologies. It will explain how these pools operate as structured repositories of impact-licensed innovations, enabling efficient identification, licensing, and scaling of solutions in sectors such as health, agriculture, and climate resilience.
Building on this, the session will transition into an interactive dialogue, inviting participants to reflect on practical implementation challenges and opportunities. Discussions will focus on the benefits for technology holders—including access to new markets, risk mitigation, and innovation feedback loops—as well as on the conditions required for successful deployment in LDCs. Particular attention will be given to the role of blended and impact finance in enabling technology absorption, strengthening local manufacturing, and fostering local innovation ecosystems.
Through moderated exchanges and audience contributions, the session will explore how technology access pools can support local adaptation, capacity-building, and sustainable partnerships, while reinforcing economic resilience and long-term innovation capacity in partner countries.
The session will conclude with the presentation of two technology access pools, illustrated through case studies, followed by a facilitated discussion to capture key lessons and recommendations for scaling this model globally.
